$10 Adults; Children Under 12 Free
This fun summer event—an island tradition for 23 years—helps develop a greater appreciation of tropical fruits, especially mangoes, and educates the public about the many ways they can be used and grown.
Mango Melee offers educational workshops and fun activities for children. The event also helps raise funds for Garden programming throughout the year.
Mango Dis, Mango Dat
‘Mango Dis, Mango Dat,’ a food competition, has been building in popularity. Chefs and cooks from around the Virgin Islands are invited to compete.
Mangoes must feature prominently in these four categories:
- Sips (alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks)
- Sweets (and desserts)
- Salsas (and sauces)
- Stuff (any miscellaneous foods that don’t fit in the other categories)
Prizes are awarded in all categories, and tastes of the winning entries are then available for sale.
There are also tropical fruit demonstrations and tastings, various mango contests, a Tropical Fruit Identification contest, and the ever-popular kids’ and adults’ Mango Eating contests.
Best of all, local food and drinks are available for purchase, and scores of craft vendors will offer their wares.
Enjoy cultural dance performances, moko jumbies, music and more throughout the Garden.
The Botanical Garden will also have a bar featuring tropical rum drinks.
The Museum and Store will be open, and plants will be available for sale in the nursery.
The day ends with a silent auction on the tropical fruits that have been on display in the Great Hall.
Entry fees are $10 per adult and children under 12 are free.
Free parking is available at or near the St. George Village Botanical Garden.
