Guava Jam


The guavas are coming!  The guavas are coming!  We are blessed at SGVBG to have some thriving guava trees, and the fruit is just coming into season.  Do you have a ton of guavas coming in?  There are only so many tarts you can make… what’s the best way to use up a tree full of fruit?  Make jam!

Ingredients

  • Guavas – 10, peeled, seeds removed, chopped
  • Brown Sugar – 650 gms
  • Lemon Juice – 2 tsp
  • Water – 2 cups

Directions:

  • Step 1: Heat water in a large pan over medium flame.
  • Step 2: Add sugar and lemon juice.
  • Step 3: Stir until sugar has fully dissolved.
  • Step 4: Bring to a boil and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes or until it starts to thicken.
  • Step 5: Remove from flame.
  • Step 6: Add the chopped guavas to the pan and place it over medium flame.
  • Step 7:  Simmer for another 15 to 20 minutes or until guavas are soft and pulpy.
  • Step 8:  Remove and blend well until smooth and thick.
  • Step 9:  Pour into clean, sterilized glass jars.
  • Step 10:  Cover with a lid.
  • Step 11:  Use as required.
